At a glance

Are you a passionate data management professional who would you like to be part of the development of a data driven bank? And are you fascinated by the financial sector and eager to explore the world of transaction banking products?

We are looking for an enthusiastic Data Steward to strengthen the data governance for Accounts, Savings & Transactions and Insurances data domains. In this role you are a connector between many stakeholders, you communicate clearly about our data and data management, and you carry a diverse set of activities in a dynamic set up.

The data domains are currently being set up to support the Transaction Banking product unit, the implementation of the bank’s federated data governance model and analytics best practices. The Transaction Banking product unit covers a vast portfolio: accounts, payment cards, packages, savings, insurances, trade finance, digital products like Apple Pay/Google Pay, associated sales, business & risk management processes, and serves 6 million Personal & Business Banking customers.

The data stewards will manage the data that is generated within the product unit, and make sure that fit-for-purpose data is ready to be consumed by the entire bank. To achieve this, they work closely with business experts, product owners, data analysts, data scientists, and other data management teams across different data domains & the Central Data Office. You have a rare opportunity to participate in the development of these newly formed domains, and in turn develop your own skills.

Your job

A Data Steward for these data domains has a versatile job, with the following key components:

  • Making fit-for-purpose data available on the ‘data marketplace’ of ABN AMRO
  • Discussing data management issues and developments with many different stakeholders, such as Data Product Owners, Application Owners of the data sources, data users, Subject Matter Experts and the Central Data Office of ABN AMRO
  • Approving data sharing requests for data from our domain, where you make sure that the requirements of the data user and the concerns of the data domain are balanced
  • Making sure that the metadata of our datasets is continuingly improving and monitored
  • Identifying data issues, and connecting the right parties to solve them
  • Developing Data Products, together with Data Scientists, Data Modelers, the Data Product Owner and our data users
  • Staying on top of all relevant developments in the field of data management

Working environment

The data domains organization will be part of the Management & Control department of Transaction Banking and are headed by a Data Domain Owner and will consist of several data stewards, data product owners, data modelers and data scientists. The Data Stewards report to a Data Product Owner. They and their Data Product Team will work closely together with all our data consumers to provide fit-for-purpose Data Products to the entire bank.

Within the same domains, there will be BI, Analytics and Advanced Analytics Centre of Expertise (CoEs). Collaborating closely with these CoEs, the data stewards will make sure that Data Products (integrated datasets) will be available and tailored to the needs of our data users. Data steward will be responsible for making sure that these products are clearly understood, and the metadata is continuingly monitored. The Data Products will be developed and made available for consumption through our own Domain Data Store, managed within the domains.

The vision of the department is to stimulate an environment where data is vital to everything we do and thus making sure that data is managed well within Transaction Banking. We have developed a culture where entrepreneurial spirit, empathy, elements of fun and celebrating successes is truly appreciated. We do this by respecting and living the bank’s values: Care, Courage and Collaboration!
